Eager to go out, I took one of my days off and spent a while at the river across the street. It seems that everyone I have met here in Oregon is someway, shape, and form tied to the rivers out here. It is funny to think how I am from the East Coast, very close to the same Latitude as Oregon. The weather is very much the same, but the one thing that really captured me when I first moved here, was the fact that the woods and rivers are enormous!
I grew up on a dead end mountain road named, “Blueberry Hill”.(*) I am very comfortable in the outdoors and “getting lost” in the woods as Boy Scouts. I have been doing that sort of thing since I was a little tyke! But I would like to mention that the woods do not seem to be as forgiving out here. I went camping the second week with Mom and Grant and it was quite a trip! I could not have asked for a better spot to really feel both the weight and comfort of the terrain! Even though I was comfortable being there, the more I ventured in the more rigid I became. It would not be hard to get completely lost in these woods if you are not fully prepared.
SO back to my story.. After my trip to the river, I stopped by the local Bar. It must have been 110 degrees that day! I sat down and had a brew, and not too long after an older man sat down next to me and we got talking about the river and how many people are at it. I would drive down the road that runs parallel to the river some days and it reminds me of driving down a boardwalk with people everywhere! It was noted on the news recently that over 1,000 people float under the bridge an hour! (picture below) That is amazing!
I decided to bring my camera with me and take some pictures of the excitement, but it was a weekday and there were not nearly as many people as I had hoped.

(*) A little side note about Blueberry Hill – Stock, who wrote the lyrics, recalls that “One important publisher turned down Blueberry Hill, because, he claimed, blueberries don’t grow on hills. I assured him I had picked them on hills as a boy, but nothing doing”.
I did the same exact thing. :)

I have decided I will be purchasing a High Definition Camcorder for when I fly back East to spend 10 days with my soon-to-be 2 year old son! I will hopefully have the resources back there to upload the videos to this blog on a daily basis. Stay tuned if you’re interested in my short reunion documentary of my Son and I. I have a lot of ideas scrambling in my mind for fun activities to do with Gabriel, my brother (Dustin), and many friends and family. So much to do in such a little bit of time. I look forward to seeing you all very soon!
So last night I was playing on Mafia Wars when I started up a conversation with one of my Mafia “family members”, Matúš Motúz Orth. Originally he and I were talking about our winnings from the weekly lotto and then turned into a mass trade off of collection items. Now this is someone who I have never talked to before up to this point. Matúš is from Slovakia and I recently learned that they are having problems with Nazis killing their people over there. Now, I don’t know too much about other countries affairs, and I will admit I do not keep up with the News that often, but our conversation grew from gaming talk to our personal political views in life and the differences between our cultures. The most interesting fact about this post is that 95% of our conversation was in Slovak! I love Google Language Tools. :) It’s amazing where our Technology has taken us! “One click of the mouse button and you have a new friend!” – Kerri
Bolo to skvelé, ako sa vám Matúš vedieť! Snad niekedy čoskoro vám ho do Ameriky za skúsenosť na celý život!
I am excited to announce the tickets are paid in full and I will be heading back East to visit friends and family for 10 days!
Starting Sunday, August 30 – My brother Dustin will be flying out to visit me here in Oregon! I am very pleased with my research and the outcome of the overall cost of this agenda! Dustin and I will spend 9 days out here in the West coast before we both depart back East on Wednesday, September 9. We will be arriving in Burlington Vermont around 10:00A.M.
After an all-niter of research of dates, departure/arrival times, and the number of layovers, I managed to come up with the ideal plan. I am especially excited because I managed to book the flight back East just in time for Gabriel’s 2nd Birthday! I do plan on hosting a Birthday party for him and will notify friends and family when I have that all planned out.
I will be leaving the East coast back here to Portland on Saturday, September, 19 and will be landing at around 9P.M. And all in time to start College on the 28th. :D
I will not be ashamed of my past, for my past has helped me learn new ways of dealing with the future.
